You will find a detailed tutorial on how to bind off in the round HERE.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

Wet block the finished item, this process transforms the stitches, makes them look smoother and neater.

Simply soak the knitted item in lukewarm water with some soak wash for 10-15 minutes. Lift it from the water and gently squeeze the excess water out. Next, lay it on a clean towel, and roll it up to remove moisture.

Pin the item to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (make sure it doesn’t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look much better after this.

Pattern overview

The Sandstone Scarf is a fun color block scarf knit with garter stitch. The chain selvedge creates a neat decorative edge.

The scarf is worked flat and is decorated with fringe.

The design features a combination of 3 different colors – beige, pink and yellow. It’s a perfect fall and winter accessory.

This scarf knitting pattern is great for newer knitters. It uses a basic stitch, and super chunky yarn and large needles make it such a quick knit.

You will find the knitting instructions below.

Gauge: 11 stitches x 11 rows = 10 x 10cm (4 x 4″) in garter stitch after blocking.

Finished size: 25cm (9 3/4″) wide and 160cm (63″) long (without the fringe).

If you want a narrower/wider scarf simply cast on fewer/more stitches.

If you want a shorter/longer scarf, simply knit fewer/more rows.

Supplies

To knit this scarf you will need the following supplies:

Yarn: ~230g (8.2 oz) super bulky weight yarn (category #6). I used Drops Wish in the colors beige (05), mauve (15), and curry (12), 2 balls of each. It’s enough to knit the scarf and make fringe. The yarn is a blend of 50% alpaca, 33% cotton, 17% wool. If you don’t have the mentioned yarn at hand, here are similar yarn options:

The scarf is knit with garter stitch. The first stitch of every row is slipped purlwise with yarn in front to create a neat edge.

If you don’t want to make a decorative edge, you can simply knit the first stitch.

Change color every 30 rows, there are a total of six color block sections. To switch colors, simply cut the working yarn leaving at least a 10cm (4″) long tail and start the next row with the new yarn.

Repeat row 1 until you have worked all six sections.

Fringe

Cut 14 pieces of yarn in the first color you used and 14 pieces in the last color used, 30cm(12″) long each. Fringe is added into every other stitch along the cast-on and bind-off ends of the scarf.

Step 1: Insert a crochet hook under both legs of a stitch, from the back (wrong side) to the front (right side).

Repeat the steps to add the fringe to both edges of the scarf.

When you are done, trim the strands to even them out.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

I always advise wet blocking the finished item, this process transforms the stitches, making them look smoother and neater.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

I always advise wet or steam blocking the finished item, this process transforms the stitches and makes them look smoother and neater.

Simply soak the knitted item in lukewarm water with some soak wash for 10-15 minutes. Lift it from the water and gently squeeze the excess water out. Next, lay it on a clean towel (make sure it doesn’t transfer color), and roll it up to remove moisture.

Pin the item to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (that doesn’t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look much better after this.

Scarf overview

The Yarrow scarf is a simple knitting project featuring garter stitch rib.

It is a two-row repeat and is easy to memorize. You will simply work a long rectangle.

If you want a narrower/wider scarf simply cast on fewer/more stitches. The pattern is a multiple of 4 stitches plus 1.

If you want a shorter/longer scarf, simply knit fewer/more rows. The pattern is a two-row repeat.

Bind off

Bind off sts loosely in pattern. If your bind-off edge looks too tight – use a size larger needles.

Step 1: P2tog, K1, bring the first st over the second one.

Repeat step 1 until you have 1 st left, cut the yarn leaving a 4″ – 6” tail to weave in later. Draw the yarn tail through the last st and pull it snug.

You will find a detailed tutorial on how to bind off knitting HERE.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

Wet block the finished item, this process transforms the stitches, makes them look smoother and neater.

Simply soak the knitted item in lukewarm water with some soak wash for 10-15 minutes. Lift it from the water and gently squeeze the excess water out. Next, lay it on a clean towel (make sure it doesn’t transfer color), and roll it up to remove moisture.

Pin the item to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (that doesn’t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look much better after this.

Bind off

Bind off sts in pattern (knit over knit stitches, purl over purl stitches).

Step 1: K2, bring the first st over the second one.

Step 2: Work the next st, bring the first st over the second one.

Repeat step 2 until you have 1 stitch left, cut the yarn leaving a 4″ – 6” tail to weave in later. Draw the yarn tail through the last stitch and pull it snug.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

Wet block the finished item, this process transforms the stitches, and makes them look smoother and neater.
