Cowl overview

The Summit Cowl features classic braided cables and slipped stitches on a reverse stockinette background. This cowl is knit from the bottom up in the round using medium weight yarn.

You might want to knit a matching headband – Summit Headband knitting pattern.

You will find the knitting instructions below.

Finished size after blocking:

Circumference: 52cm (20.5″)
Height: 26cm (10.25″)

If you want to change the circumference of the cowl, knit fewer/more pattern repeats.

If you want to change the height of the cowl, knit fewer/ more rows.

Gauge: 14 sts x 8rounds = 5.7 cm (2.25″) x 2.85cm (1.2″) one pattern repeat

Supplies

To knit this cowl you will need the following supplies:

Yarn: ~135g (4.75 oz) medium weight yarn (category #4). I used Drops Big Merino in the color lavender (mix 09). It’s 100% merino wool. If you don’t have the mentioned yarn at hand, here are similar yarn options:

Abbreviations

CO – cast on

St (s) – stitch (es)

K – knit

P – purl

Sl – slip stitch purlwise with yarn in back

C6F – slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. Knit the next 3 stitches, then knit the 3 stitches from the cable needle.

C6B – slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work. Knit the next 3 stitches, then knit the 3 stitches from the cable needle.

*-* – repeat to end of the round or stated amount of times

SUMMIT COWL KNITTING PATTERN

Cast on

With smaller needles, CO on 126 sts using the Long-tail cast-on method or the one you prefer.

Join in the round being careful not to twist the sts (place a marker if you wish to mark the beginning of the round).

I prefer using the invisible join method:

Step 1: CO 126 + 1 extra st (a total of 127 sts).

Step 2: Slip the first st purlwise from the left needle to the right needle.

Step 3: Bring the second st from the right needle over the top of the first st (the one, that we have passed from the left needle)

Step 4: Put that slipped st from the right needle back to the left one (126 sts left). Pull on the strands to tighten.

Bottom border

Round 1: *P2, K3, P3, K3, P2, K1* to end

Repeat round 1 five more times (a total of 6 rounds).

Body

Switch to larger beedles.

Round 1: *P2, K9, P2, Sl1* repeat to end

Round 2: *P2, K9, P2, K1* repeat to end

Round 3: *P2, C6B, K3, P2, Sl1* repeat to end

Round 4: *P2, K9, P2, K1* repeat to end

Round 5: *P2, K9, P2, Sl1* repeat to end

Round 6: *P2, K9, P2, K1* repeat to end

Top border

Switch to smaller needles.

Binf off

Bind off sts in pattern (knit over knit stitches, purl over purl stitches).

Step 1: Work 2, bring the first st over the second one.

Step 2: Work the next st, bring the first st over the second one.

Repeat step 2 until you have 1 stitch left, cut the yarn leaving a 10cm / 4″ tail to weave in.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

Wet block the finished item, this process transforms the stitches, makes them look smoother and neater.

Simply soak the knitted item in lukewarm water with some soak wash for 10-15 minutes. Lift it from the water and gently squeeze the excess water out. Next, lay it on a clean towel, and roll it up to remove moisture.

Pin the item to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (make sure it doesn’t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look much better after this.

Scarf overview

The Raindrops Scarf is a simple rectangle scarf, that is worked in a slip stitch pattern. The pattern is a two-row repeat, making it very easy to modify the length of the scarf.

The edges are worked in a 3-stitch i-cord.

This scarf is knitted with medium weight merino wool.

Finished size:

Width: 20cm (7 ^3/4″)
Length: 170cm (67″)

If you want to make the scarf narrower/ wider, cast on fewer/ more stitches. One pattern repeat is worked over three stitches. Cast on a multiple of 3 stitches + 8 stitches for symmetry and edges.

If you want to make the scarf shorter/ longer, work fewer/ more pattern repeats. One pattern repeat is worked over two rows.

Pattern overview

The Sandstone Scarf is a fun color block scarf knit with garter stitch. The chain selvedge creates a neat decorative edge.

The scarf is worked flat and is decorated with fringe.

The design features a combination of 3 different colors – beige, pink and yellow. It’s a perfect fall and winter accessory.

This scarf knitting pattern is great for newer knitters. It uses a basic stitch, and super chunky yarn and large needles make it such a quick knit.

If you don’t want to make a decorative edge, you can simply knit the first stitch.

Change color every 30 rows, there are a total of six color block sections. To switch colors, simply cut the working yarn leaving at least a 10cm (4″) long tail and start the next row with the new yarn.

Row 1: Sl1, K to end.

Repeat row 1 until you have worked all six sections.

Bind off

Bind off sts purlwise.

Step 1: Purl 2 sts, bring the first st over the second one.

Step 2: Purl the next st, bring the first st over the second one.

Repeat step 2 until you have 1 stitch left, cut the yarn leaving a 10cm /4″ tail. Draw the yarn tail through the last stitch and pull it snug.

Step 2: Fold a strand in half and pull through the stitch to create a loop.

Step 3: Pull two ends through the loop and pull to tighten.

Scarf overview

The Yarrow scarf is a simple knitting project featuring garter stitch rib.

It is a two-row repeat and is easy to memorize. You will simply work a long rectangle.

If you want a narrower/wider scarf simply cast on fewer/more stitches. The pattern is a multiple of 4 stitches plus 1.

If you want a shorter/longer scarf, simply knit fewer/more rows. The pattern is a two-row repeat.

The scarf is worked in English rib.

Set-up round: *Yo, Sl1, K1* to end.

Cowl overview

The Grain Cowl will keep your neck warm.

This cowl is a quick knitting project in super chunky yarn. The cowl features a simple slip stitch pattern that is a two-row repeat, which makes it really easy to modify the height of the neck warmer.

The cowl is worked from the bottom up in the round seamlessly.

This cowl will look great with a matching headband – Grain Headband knitting pattern.

Finished size after blocking:

Circumference: approximately 54cm (21 ^1/4“)
Height: approximately 25cm (9 ^3/4“)

Gauge: 15 stitches x 20 rows = 10 x 10cm (4 x 4″ ) in pattern.

Supplies

To knit this cowl you will need the following supplies:

Yarn: ~ 105 g (3.7 oz) super bulky weight yarn (category #6). I used Lana Grossa Mille 2 in the color Camel (053). It’s a 50% wool and 50% acrylic yarn, that’s soft and machine washable. If you don’t have the mentioned yarn at hand, here are other yarn options:

Needles: 6mm (US10) 40cm (16”) circular knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. You can also use circular needles with a longer cord if you prefer the magic loop method or a set of double-pointed needles.

THE GRAIN COWL KNITTING PATTERN

Cast on

CO 112 sts using the long-tail cast-on method or the one you prefer.

Join in the round being careful not to twist the sts and place a marker if you wish to mark the beginning of the round.

I prefer using the invisible join method:

Step 1: CO 84 + 1 extra st (a total of 85 sts).

Step 2: Slip the first st purlwise from the left needle to the right needle.

Step 3: Bring the second st from the right needle over the top of the first st (the one, that we have passed from the left needle)

Step 4: Put that slipped st from the right needle back to the left one (84 sts left). Pull on the strands to tighten.

Cowl

The body of the cowl is worked in a slip stitch pattern.

Round 2: *K1, P2* to end.

Cowl overview

This chunky cable cowl is a beautiful accessory to keep your neck warm.

The pattern features large cables. The cowl is knit in the round from the bottom up seamlessly.

This cowl will look great with another one of my patterns – Chunky Cable Headband.

Finished size after blocking:

Circumference: approximately 48cm (18.9″)
Height: approximately 25cm (9.8″)

Gauge: 18 stitches x 10 rows = 12 x 5cm (4.75 x 2″ ) one cable pattern repeat after blocking.

Cowl overview

The Glacier Cowl is a chic accessory, that will keep your neck warm.

The cowl features a delicate lace pattern, it is worked from the bottom up in the round and has no seams. The top and bottom borders are worked in a 2×2 rib stitch.

This cowl matches my Glacier Headband and Glacier Fingerless Gloves, they make a beautiful set.

Finished size after blocking:

Circumference: 54cm (21 ^1/4_”)
Height: 25cm (9.8″)

If you want to change the circumference of the cowl, cast on fewer/ more stitches. One pattern repeat is approx 3.4cm (1.35”) wide.

Gauge: 21 stitches x 25 rows = 10 x 10cm (4 x 4″ ) in lace pattern after blocking.
