Cowl overview

The Summit Cowl features classic braided cables and slipped stitches on a reverse stockinette background. This cowl is knit from the bottom up in the round using medium weight yarn.

You might want to knit a matching headband – Summit Headband knitting pattern.

You will find the knitting instructions below.

Finished size after blocking:

Circumference: 52cm (20.5″)
Height: 26cm (10.25″)

If you want to change the circumference of the cowl, knit fewer/more pattern repeats.

If you want to change the height of the cowl, knit fewer/ more rows.

Gauge: 14 sts x 8rounds = 5.7 cm (2.25″) x 2.85cm (1.2″) one pattern repeat

Supplies

To knit this cowl you will need the following supplies:

Yarn: ~135g (4.75 oz) medium weight yarn (category #4). I used Drops Big Merino in the color lavender (mix 09). It’s 100% merino wool. If you don’t have the mentioned yarn at hand, here are similar yarn options:

Abbreviations

CO – cast on

St (s) – stitch (es)

K – knit

P – purl

Sl – slip stitch purlwise with yarn in back

C6F – slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. Knit the next 3 stitches, then knit the 3 stitches from the cable needle.

C6B – slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work. Knit the next 3 stitches, then knit the 3 stitches from the cable needle.

*-* – repeat to end of the round or stated amount of times

SUMMIT COWL KNITTING PATTERN

Cast on

With smaller needles, CO on 126 sts using the Long-tail cast-on method or the one you prefer.

Join in the round being careful not to twist the sts (place a marker if you wish to mark the beginning of the round).

I prefer using the invisible join method:

Step 1: CO 126 + 1 extra st (a total of 127 sts).

Step 2: Slip the first st purlwise from the left needle to the right needle.

Step 3: Bring the second st from the right needle over the top of the first st (the one, that we have passed from the left needle)

Step 4: Put that slipped st from the right needle back to the left one (126 sts left). Pull on the strands to tighten.

Bottom border

Round 1: *P2, K3, P3, K3, P2, K1* to end

Repeat round 1 five more times (a total of 6 rounds).

Body

Switch to larger beedles.

Round 1: *P2, K9, P2, Sl1* repeat to end

Round 2: *P2, K9, P2, K1* repeat to end

Round 3: *P2, C6B, K3, P2, Sl1* repeat to end

Round 4: *P2, K9, P2, K1* repeat to end

Round 5: *P2, K9, P2, Sl1* repeat to end

Round 6: *P2, K9, P2, K1* repeat to end

Round 7: *P2, K3, C6F, P2, Sl1* repeat to end

Round 8: *P2, K9, P2, K1* repeat to end

Repeat rounds 1 – 8 six more times (a total of seven repeats) or until you reach your desired length.

Top border

Switch to smaller needles.

Round 1: *P2, K3, P3, K3, P2, K1* to end

Repeat round 1 five more times (a total of 6 rounds).

Binf off

Bind off sts in pattern (knit over knit stitches, purl over purl stitches).

Step 1: Work 2, bring the first st over the second one.

Step 2: Work the next st, bring the first st over the second one.

Repeat step 2 until you have 1 stitch left, cut the yarn leaving a 10cm / 4″ tail to weave in.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

Wet block the finished item, this process transforms the stitches, makes them look smoother and neater.

Simply soak the knitted item in lukewarm water with some soak wash for 10-15 minutes. Lift it from the water and gently squeeze the excess water out. Next, lay it on a clean towel, and roll it up to remove moisture.

Pin the item to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (make sure it doesn’t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look much better after this.

Cowl overview

The Wildflower Cowl is a beautiful fall accessory.

This cowl is knit from the bottom up in the round. The design features a braid cable on a stockinette stitch background.

The cow is knitted with light weight merino wool.

You might want to knit a matching headband – Wildflower Headband knitting pattern.

Finished size after blocking:

Circumference: 51cm (20″)
Height: 27.5 cm (10.75)

If you want to change the circumference of the cowl, cast on fewer/ more stitches.

Gauge: 22 stitches x 30 rows = 10 x 10cm (4 x 4″ ) in stockinette stitch after blocking.

The Grain Cowl will keep your neck warm.

This cowl is a quick knitting project in super chunky yarn. The cowl features a simple slip stitch pattern that is a two-row repeat, which makes it really easy to modify the height of the neck warmer.

The Glacier Cowl is a chic accessory, that will keep your neck warm.

The cowl features a delicate lace pattern, it is worked from the bottom up in the round and has no seams. The top and bottom borders are worked in a 2×2 rib stitch.

Cabled Cowl knitting pattern

Cowl overview

The Cabled Cowl is a cozy accessory to keep your neck warm. This cowl fits perfectly under a coat or a jacket.

The cowl has ribbed borders and features mirrored cables. It is worked from the bottom up in the round and has no seams.

The pattern is a two-row repeat and it’s really easy to modify the height and the width of the cowl.

This cowl matches my Braided Headband.

Finished size after blocking:

Circumference: 48cm (18.9″)
Height: 30cm (11″)

If you want to change the circumference of the cowl, cast on fewer/ more stitches. One pattern repeat is a multiple of 8 stitches and is approximately 9cm (3.5”) wide.

If you want to change the height of the cowl, knit fewer/ more pattern repeats.

Gauge: 24 stitches x 26 rows = 10 x 10cm (4 x 4″ ) in pattern after blocking.

Supplies

To knit this cowl you will need the following supplies:

Yarn: ~ 85g (3 oz) medium weight yarn (category #4). I used Lana Grossa Merino Uno in the color amber (48). It’s 100% merino wool. If you don’t have the mentioned yarn at hand, here are similar yarn options:

Needles: 4.5mm (US7) and 5mm (US8) 40cm (16”) circular knitting needles. You can also use circular needles with a longer cord if you prefer the magic loop method or a set of double-pointed needles.
Cable needle (If you don’t have a cable needle, you can substitute it with a double-pointed needle or a large enough safety pin).
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Scissors

Abbreviations

CO – cast on

St (s) – stitch (es)

K – knit

P – purl

C2B – Slip 1 stitch onto cable needle and leave at back of work. Knit the next stitch, then knit the stitch from the cable needle.

C2F – Slip 1 stitch onto cable needle and leave at front of work. Knit the next stitch, then knit the stitch from the cable needle.

* * – repeat from * to * until the end of the row or the stated amount of times

CABLE COWL KNITTING PATTERN

Cast on

With smaller needles CO 120 sts using the long-tail cast-on method or the one you prefer.

Join in the round being careful not to twist the sts and place a marker.

I prefer using the invisible join method:

Step 1: Cast on 120 + 1 extra st (a total of 121 sts).

Step 2: Slip the first st purlwise from the left needle to the right needle.

Step 3: Bring the second st from the right needle over the top of the first st (the one, that we have just passed from the left needle).

Step 4: Put that slipped st from the right needle back to the left one (120 sts left). Pull on the strands to tighten.

Bottom border

The bottom border is worked over eight rows in a 2×2 rib stitch:

Round 1: *K2, P2* to end.

Repeat round 1 seven more times.

You can work fewer/ more rounds if you want to make the border shorter/ longer.

Main body

The body of the cowl is worked in a cable pattern.

Switch to larger needles:

Round 1: *C2B, P2, C2F, P2* to end.

Round 2: *K2, P2* to end.

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until the piece measures approximately 25cm (9.8”) from the cast-on edge or your desired height. End with round 1.

Modifications: The pattern features left-leaning and right-leaning cables. If you want to simplify the design you can work only left-leaning or only right-leaning cables. In this case, round 1 will look like this: *C2B (or C2F), P2* to end. Round 2 stays the same.

Top border

The top border is worked over eight rows in a 2×2 rib stitch.

Switch to smaller needles:

Round 1: *K2, P2* to end.

Repeat round 1 7 more times.

You can work fewer/ more rounds if you want to make the border shorter/ longer.

Bind off

Bind off sts in pattern (knit over knit stitches, purl over purl stitches).

Step 1: K2, bring the first st over the second one.

Step 2: Work the next st, bring the first st over the second one.

Repeat step 2 until you have 1 st left, cut the yarn leaving a 4″ – 6” tail to weave in later. Draw the yarn tail through the last st and pull it snug.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

Wet block the finished item, this process transforms the stitches, makes them look smoother and neater.

Pin the item to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (that doesn’t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look much better after this.

COWL OVERVIEW

The Lace cowl is a cozy accessory to keep you warm. It’s a snug neck warmer, that fits perfectly under a coat or a jacket.

This cowl has garter stitch borders and features vertical lace stripes. It is worked from the bottom up in the round, so it has no seams.

The pattern is a two-row repeat and it’s really easy to modify the height of the cowl.

This cowl matches my other pattern – Twisted Lace Headband, together they make a beautiful fall set.

Circumference: 48cm (18.9″)
Height: 28cm (11.8″)

If you want to change the circumference of the cowl, cast on fewer/ more stitches. One pattern repeat is approx 3.4cm (1.35”) wide.

Gauge: 21 stitches x 25 rows = 10 x 10cm (4 x 4″ ) in lace pattern after blocking.

English Rib Cowl | Knitting Pattern

PATTERN OVERVIEW

This cowl is knit in English rib, which is a textured and cushy stitch. The pattern is just a one-row repeat, making it quick and easy to memorize.

The English rib cowl is knit flat from the bottom up, and the sides are sewn together using the mattress stitch.

This cowl is a great cold-weather accessory, and it matches my Headband with a twist | Knitting pattern. Be sure to check it out!

Finished size after blocking:

Circumference: 50cm (19.6″).
Height: 27 cm (10.6″). Including 2cm (0.75 “), that the cowl grew after blocking.

If you want to change the circumference of the cowl, cast on fewer/ more stitches, but the total must be a multiple of 3 +2 stitches. These 2 stitches will form a chain edge and will be seamed.

If you want the cowl to be shorter/ higher work fewer/ more rows.

Gauge: 23 stitches x 24 rows = 10 x 10cm (4 x 4″ ) in pattern after blocking.

CO 119 sts using the longtail cast-on method or the one you prefer.

Row 1: Sl1k, *Yo, Sl1p, k2tog*, repeat from * to * until last st, P1.

Repeat row 1 for 25cm (9 ^3/4“) or desired length.

Bind off

Bind off loosely in pattern – knit the knit stitches and yarn overs, purl the purl stitches.

Step 1: Knit the first stitch, knit the yarn over – you have two stitches on your right needle. Insert the left needle into the first stitch on the right needle and bring it over the second one. Now you have 1 stitch left on your right needle.

Step 2: Purl the next stitch – you have two stitches on your right needle again. Insert the left needle into the first stitch on the right needle and bring it over the second one. Now you have 1 stitch left on your right needle.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have 1 stitch left, cut the yarn leaving a 4″ – 6” tail to weave in later. Draw the yarn tail through the last loop and pull it snug.

Seam

Fold the cowl in half and sew the side edges together.

I used the vertical mattress stitch, which is an invisible seam, and sew the edge stitches together.

Weave in all loose ends and block.
