Raindrops Scarf knitting pattern

Scarf overview

The Raindrops Scarf is a simple rectangle scarf, that is worked in a slip stitch pattern. The pattern is a two-row repeat, making it very easy to modify the length of the scarf.

The edges are worked in a 3-stitch i-cord.

This scarf is knitted with medium weight merino wool.

Finished size:

• Width: 20cm (7 ^3/4″)
• Length: 170cm  (67″)

If you want to make the scarf narrower/ wider, cast on fewer/ more stitches. One pattern repeat is worked over three stitches. Cast on a multiple of 3 stitches + 8 stitches for symmetry and edges.

If you want to make the scarf shorter/ longer, work fewer/ more pattern repeats. One pattern repeat is worked over two rows.

Gauge:  22 stitches x 26 rows = 10 x 10cm (4 x 4″ ) in slip stitch pattern after blocking.

Supplies

To knit this scarf you will need the following supplies:

• Yarn: ~300g (10.6 oz) medium weight yarn (category #4). I used Drops Big Merino in the color ice blue (uni 23). It’s 100% merino wool. If you don’t have the mentioned yarn at hand, here are similar yarn options:

• The One Merino from Wool and the Gang
• Rialto Aran from Debbie Bliss
• Merino Extrafine 85 from Schachenmayr

• 5mm (US 8) knitting needles
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Abbreviations

CO – cast on

St (s) – stitch (es)

K – knit

P – purl

Sl wyif – slip stitch purlwise with yarn in front

Sl wyib – slip stitch purlwise with yarn in back

*  * – repeat from * to * until the end of the row or the stated amount of times

RAINDROPS SCARF KNITTING PATTERN

Cast on

CO on 44 sts using the Long-tail cast-on method or the one you prefer.

Scarf

Row 1: K3, *P2, Sl1 wyib* twelve times, P2, Sl3 wyif

Row 2: K5, *P1, K2* to last three stitches, Sl3 wyif

Repeat rows 1-2 until you reach your desired length.

Bind off

Bind off sts in pattern (knit over knit and slipped stitches, purl over purl stitches).

Step 1: Work the first 2 sts, bring the first st over the second one.

Step 2: Work the next st, bring the first st over the second one.

Repeat step 2 until you have one stitch left, cut the yarn leaving a 4″ – 6″ tail to weave in later. Draw the yarn tail through the last stitch and pull it snug.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends.

Wet block the finished item. This process transforms the stitches and makes them look smoother and neater.

Simply soak the knitted item in lukewarm water with some soak wash for 10-15 minutes. Lift it from the water and gently squeeze the excess water out. Next, lay it on a clean towel, and roll it up to remove moisture.

Pin the item to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (make sure it doesn’t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look much better after this.
