<h2 id="shawl-overview" style="text-align: left;">Shawl overview</h2>
<p>The Dahlia Shawl will provide additional warmth on cooler summer evenings. It is knit in a blend of merino wool and cotton, which is great for spring and summer garments.</p>
<p>This is a top-down triangle shawl. The design features eyelet sections on a stockinette stitch background.&nbsp;</p>
<p>You will begin by knitting the garter tab. Next, you will work the body of the shawl. The triangle shape is created by making four yarn over increases every other row. They are made on both sides of the central stitch and along the top garter stitch border. When you are happy with the length of the shawl, you will work the garter stitch border, and bind off the stitches.</p>

<hr>
<h3 id="finishing">Finishing</h3>
<p>Weave in all loose ends.</p>
<p>Wet or steam blocking the finished shawl. This process transforms the stitches, and makes them look smoother and neater.</p>
<p>Simply soak the knitted item in lukewarm water with some <a href="https://amzn.to/3zUH7EC" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">soak wash</a> for 10-15 minutes. Lift it from the water and gently squeeze the excess water out. Next, lay it on a clean towel, and roll it up to remove moisture.</p>
<p>Pin the shawl to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (make sure it doesn&#8217;t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look neat after blocking.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<hr>
<h2 id="finishing">Finishing</h2>

<h2 id="shawl-overview" style="text-align: left;">Shawl overview</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">A knit shawl is a beautiful and cozy accessory, that comes in all shapes and sizes.</p>
<p>This basic shawl has a triangle shape. It is knit flat in stockinette stitch and has a garter stitch border. It is shaped with symmetrical increases, so the left and right sides are identical.</p>
<p>The shawl is knit top-down starting from the center of the neck, making it easy to adjust the size of the finished item. You simply knit until you reach your desired length.</p>
<p>The shawl begins with a garter tab cast-on, that blends seamlessly with its top edge.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 id="finishing">Finishing</h3>
<p>Weave in all ends.</p>
<p>I always advise wet or steam blocking the finished item, this process transforms the stitches, makes them look smoother and neater.</p>
<p>Pin the item to a blocking board or lay it on a clean and dry towel (make sure it doesn&#8217;t transfer color) and let it dry. Your knitting will look much better after this</p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Learn how to knit the garter tab cast-on for a triangle shawl.</strong></span></p>
<p>Garter tab cast-on is used to begin a top-down triangular shawl. This technique creates a small garter stitch rectangle, that looks like the garter stitch border of a traditional shawl. This way the top edge looks very smooth.</p>
<p>You will find the photo tutorial for the garter tab cast-on below.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>PIN this for later!</em></strong></p>

<p><strong>Step 1: </strong>Cast on 3 stitches using <a href="https://mirellamoments.com/long-tail-cast-on-method/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the long tail cast-on.</a></p>
<p><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2119 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on.jpg?resize=1080%2C693&#038;ssl=1" alt="How to knit garter tab cast on" width="1080" height="693" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on.jpg?w=1080&amp;ssl=1 1080w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on.jpg?resize=400%2C257&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on.jpg?resize=500%2C321&amp;ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on.jpg?resize=768%2C493&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on.jpg?resize=960%2C616&amp;ssl=1 960w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p><strong>Step 2: </strong>Place a removable marker in each of the 3 cast-on stitches, this will help identify the cast-on stitches later.</p>
<p><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2120 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-2.jpg?resize=1080%2C720&#038;ssl=1" alt="How to knit garter tab cast on" width="1080" height="720" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-2.jpg?w=1080&amp;ssl=1 1080w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-2.jpg?resize=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-2.jpg?resize=500%2C333&amp;ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-2.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-2.jpg?resize=960%2C640&amp;ssl=1 960w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p><strong>Step 3: </strong>Now knit 6 rows. Once complete, you will have a long thin rectangle worked in garter stitch.&nbsp;</p>
<p><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2121 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-3.jpg?resize=1080%2C720&#038;ssl=1" alt="How to knit garter tab cast on" width="1080" height="720" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-3.jpg?w=1080&amp;ssl=1 1080w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-3.jpg?resize=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-3.jpg?resize=500%2C333&amp;ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-3.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-3.jpg?resize=960%2C640&amp;ssl=1 960w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p><strong>Step 4: </strong>Rotate the tab 90 degrees clockwise and look closely &#8211; you will see 3 purl bumps along the garter edge of the rectangle.</p>
<p><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2122 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-4.jpg?resize=1080%2C720&#038;ssl=1" alt="How to knit garter tab cast on" width="1080" height="720" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-4.jpg?w=1080&amp;ssl=1 1080w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-4.jpg?resize=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-4.jpg?resize=500%2C333&amp;ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-4.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-4.jpg?resize=960%2C640&amp;ssl=1 960w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p>Pick up each bump and knit.</p>
<p><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2125 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-6.jpg?resize=1080%2C720&#038;ssl=1" alt="How to knit garter tab cast on" width="1080" height="720" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-6.jpg?w=1080&amp;ssl=1 1080w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-6.jpg?resize=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-6.jpg?resize=500%2C333&amp;ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-6.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-6.jpg?resize=960%2C640&amp;ssl=1 960w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p>To do so, simply pick up the bumps with the left-hand needle, insert the right-hand needle into the first bump, wrap the yarn around the needle as if to knit, and pull it through to create a stitch. Repeat this process with the 2 remaining bumps.</p>
<p>You will have 6 stitches on your right-hand needle.</p>

<p><strong>Step 5: </strong>Now pick up and knit the cast-on stitches &#8211; the markers will help you find them.</p>
<p><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2124 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-8.jpg?resize=1080%2C720&#038;ssl=1" alt="How to knit garter tab cast on" width="1080" height="720" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-8.jpg?w=1080&amp;ssl=1 1080w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-8.jpg?resize=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-8.jpg?resize=500%2C333&amp;ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-8.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-8.jpg?resize=960%2C640&amp;ssl=1 960w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p>Again, pick up the cast-on stitches with the left-hand needle (you can take off the markers at this point), insert the right-hand needle into the first stitch, wrap the yarn around the needle as if to knit, and pull it through to create a stitch. Repeat with the 2 remaining cast-on stitches.</p>
<p>You will have 9 stitches on your right-hand needle.</p>
<p><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2123 size-full" src="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-5.jpg?resize=1080%2C720&#038;ssl=1" alt="How to knit garter tab cast on" width="1080" height="720" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-5.jpg?w=1080&amp;ssl=1 1080w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-5.jpg?resize=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1 400w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-5.jpg?resize=500%2C333&amp;ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-5.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/mirellamoments.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/How-to-knit-garter-tab-cast-on-5.jpg?resize=960%2C640&amp;ssl=1 960w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
